Dr. W. Thomas McClellan is a native of Charleston, WV, an honors graduate of the University of Charleston and the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He stayed in Morgantown for his general surgery training where he was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society, and was selected as Outstanding Teacher of the Year three years in a row.
Dr. McClellan then completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training at the world renowned Lahey Clinic Foundation, a Harvard Medical School and Tufts Medical School affiliate, in Boston, MA. In Boston, he worked at Lahey Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. While there, he lectured at multiple regional and national conferences on various plastic surgery topics. Additionally he published six book chapters, numerous articles, and is currently completing his first book on Plastic Surgery.
Following his plastic surgery training, Dr. McClellan completed additional training in Durham, North Carolina where he completed a combined Hand Surgery and Microsurgery fellowship in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University. The Duke University Hand and Microsurgery fellowship is widely considered one of the top programs in the world. While at Duke, he developed a new flexor tendon repair technique and participated in cutting edge brachial plexus reconstruction research.
Finally Dr. McClellan completed an Aesthetic Surgery fellowship at the internationally renowned Paces Plastic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. This fellowship is considered one of the best in the world and specifically focuses on cosmetic eyelid and facial surgery. While there, Dr. McClellan performed research focused on treatment for atypical infections following eyelid surgery.
Dr. McClellan is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has completed extensive training at some of our nation's finest institutions. He is honored to have worked with many of the true ‘masters’ in Cosmetic, Hand, and Reconstructive surgery. It is his directive to deliver the most current, compassionate and safe plastic surgery service within the state of West Virginia.
